Funeral Preparations Of The Late Prof. George Magoha Spelt Out

Former Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) the late Prof. George Magoha will be laid to rest at his rural home in Umiru Nyamninia village, in Siaya County on Saturday February 11, 2023.

Briefing the press on Friday at Breaside School in Lavington, the family Spokesperson Dr. Julius Jwan announced that a series of solemn funeral events would follow before Magoha’s interment.

Jwan announced that on Wednesday February 8th, a farewell caravan will proceed to the Lee Funeral home where there will be a procession to various places that defined the late Magoha, to enable Kenyans and dignitaries to pay tribute to the gallant soldier.

“The places to be visited include University of Nairobi – College of Health Sciences, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Headquarters, Kenya National Examination Council offices along Dennis Pritt Road, Nigerian High Commission, St. Georges Primary School, State House Girls High School and Starehe Boys Centre,” said Jwan.

He said the requiem mass would be held on Thursday 9th February 2023 at the Consolata Shrine Catholic Church, Westlands at 9.00am and urged Kenyans to join in the celebration of Prof. Magoha’s life whose work was always guided by his deep Catholic faith.

The family Spokesperson observed that Prof. Magoha’s final lap as a CS, was always in the midst of children and students, noting that as a result of honoring his will, the family decided to hold his funeral mass at Odera Akang’o University campus in his hometown in Yala.

He added that the body would arrive at Township Primary School in Yala Friday, February 10th, 2023 at I.00pm followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Secondary School in Yala and subsequently, a requiem mass will follow at his home in Umiru Nyamninia while the funeral mass will be held on 11th Saturday February at Odera Akang’o at University Campus at Yala at 10.00am.

“We are immensely grateful for the love and high regard with which the late Prof. Magoha is held by Kenyans from all walks of life,” said the family.

Magoha’s family thanked the media for being empathetic, reflective and extensive in their coverage of the major loss with dignity, noting that other details will be communicated on Tuesday at a press conference at the family’s residence.
