Form Groups To Get Hustler Fund, Youths Told

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has implored youth in the area to organize themselves into groups to benefit from hustler funds loans for Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) that will be launched in February.

He was speaking in Hola when he visited youth endangering their lives while engaging in sand harvesting along the crocodile infested River Tana to eke out a living.

“Two weeks ago I was in Kampala as a member of the senate trade committee; we were with our CS in charge of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Simon Chelugui.

The CS told me to educate our people that there is a lot of money coming from February for the hustler’s fund that President Ruto said will be disbursed, it has started with Ksh500,” said Mungatana.

The Senator advised the youth under the Laza Youth Community Organization to take up the current Ksh500 loan and repay it.

It is required, said Senator Mungatana, that everyone who wants the group fund must be a registered member of a group.

“Strive to prepare yourselves with financial statements, the more organized you are, the better you are qualified to get a loan. This money belongs to Tana River, and it is my desire that the people of Tana benefit from it, said Senator Mungatana.

The Senator revealed that more than 146,000 in Tana River have access to the personal finance product of the hustler fund that starts with Ksh500.

The senator was impressed by the industrious youth saying, “I have a sense of pride for the youth hustling to make ends meet by engaging in sand harvesting along River Tana”.

In retrospect, the Senator said he hustled after completing his Post-Graduate at the Kenya School of Law and was able to purchase his first vehicle three months later.

The Hustler fund, a financial inclusion initiative, is a brainchild of the Kenya Kwanza government as it aims to improve financial access to responsible finance for personal, Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs).
