An Embu County 3K FC football team has qualified to play in the National Division One League which is a third-tier league in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league structure.
3K FC qualified to play in the third-tier league of the FKF league Structure-National Division One League after a 5-4 win against the Kenya Navy during a penalty shootout in a promotion play-off game of Division One at Camp Garba Catholic Mission field in Isiolo County.
FKF Chair Embu branch Charles Njage said that the promotion of Embu’s 3K FC to National Division One League is an inspiration to other teams in Embu and that it portrays to the world and investors that there is talent in the County.
“As you are all aware, one of our teams in Embu for the first time in history has qualified to play in the National Division One League which is a third-tier league in the FKF league structure. This is an inspiration to other teams in Embu and also portrays to the world and investors that there is talent in Embu County,” said the FKF chair Embu branch.
Njange said that with the promotion of 3K FC to Division One League, he is optimistic that other teams from Embu would be promoted to National Division Two League because 3K FC promotion created a vacuum that Embu teams have to be pushed to fill.
He added that three teams from Embu- Domain FC, Ewasco FC and Zenshin FC are playing in the National Division Two League.
While addressing the press in Embu, the FKF chair Embu branch said that despite the county having talent, it still encounters numerous challenges adding that the county does not have sporting infrastructures.
He urged the County Government to consider renovating Embu County Moi Stadium so that teams in the county could have a well-equipped stadium for talent development.
The FKF Chair Embu branch disclosed that Governor Mbarire is in talks with the Embu ASK to build a stadium at the ASK showground so that Embu teams could have enough facilities for training.
Njage said that despite the challenges that FKF has been facing, Embu County Government has always partnered with FKF Embu branch to ensure that all the leagues are played.
He added that the Embu County Government has always sponsored the County Leagues and that in the 2021/2022 season, the County Government bought a car wash machine for the county league winners.
The FKF chair Embu branch welcomed FIFA’s decision to lift a 9-month ban on Kenya after the Government’s decision to reinstate the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) after the National Federation was disbanded over corruption allegations.
He said the move would allow Kenyan teams to participate in Regional games, CECAFA and even in the World Cup.
Njage called on the Ministry of Sports, Youth Affairs and Arts to speed up the amendment of the Sports Act 2013 because sports is a devolved function.
He said that the amendment of the Sports Act 2013 would be very critical in managing County Leagues, Sub-County Leagues, National Division One and two leagues and even the National Super Leagues.
