Voters in Kiambu constituency braved the morning cold and lined up as early as 5am in the morning to cast their votes
The exercise had been going on smoothly since morning but some voters have had to step aside to the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits.
Some Residents from the Riabai ward in Kiambu constituency and who vote at the ACK St. Phillip Kihingo were affected by the KIEMs Kit failure forcing IEBC to tell them to step aside as they resolve the issue.
The failures affected elderly especially those whose fingerprints could not be captured.
According to the Returning officer at the polling station that has 2000 registered voters, they have been requested to wait a bit in order for the IEBC officials to see what to do about it.
“We are not using any manual register therefore, we will have to come up with another method in order for those whose details we cannot capture with the biometric”, the returning officer said.
A few other polling stations in Kiambu have also experienced the same failure by Kiem’s kit to recognize especially the elderly. Some of them expressed their disappointment after the BVR -kits failed.
“I brought my mother who is 79 years old very early in the morning so that she cannot queue for long and is able to go back home but her details could not be verified, this is unfair. The court also refused the manual register to be used. There is nothing else I can do apart from taking her back home if there is nothing else IEBC can come up with “, Joseph Kiarie from Riabai ward said.
Meanwhile the current Governor James Nyoro who was voting in his home town in kamangu at Kamangu primary school polling station urged IEBC to resolve issues of Kiem’s kits and ensures that nobody is denied their constitutional right to vote.
He also thanked voters in Kiambu County who had come out to cast their votes but called upon others who had not to do so before the closing of the exercise at 6.p.m today.
