ELDOWAS Moves To Conserve Water Catchment Areas

The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company limited (ELDOWAS) in collaboration with the County Government of Uasin Gishu and through the Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources, Tourism and Wildlife Management has strengthened efforts to conserve water catchment areas in Uasin Gishu.
The initiative that also aims at addressing the challenges brought about by climate change will see ELDOWAS plant over 2 million trees this year.
And towards achieving this goal, the company in partnership with the county’s Water department on Friday saw over 5000 tree seedlings planted at Kaptagat Forest and Penon Forest Station.
“We planted over 3500 tree seedlings at Kaptagat Forest to enhance our catchment area. We have a million tree seedlings in our tree nurseries and we have partnered with the community tree nurseries to ensure we conserve the catchment areas,” ELDOWAS Managing Director Peter Biwott pointed out.
He stressed the need for the county government, ELDOWAS and all other stakeholders to unite in order to effectively conserve the environment for posterity.
On her part, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment, Natural Resources, Tourism and Wildlife Management Ms Mary Njogu, challenged area residents to also take a leading role in environmental conservation especially by planting more trees in their farms and institutions.
