Eastern Regional Secondary School Games Enters Day Two

East Africa Secondary Schools volleyball girls defending champions Kwanthanze Secondary School from Machakos County, thrashed Ngondi Secondary School from Tharaka Nithi by three straight sets to advance to the finals of Eastern Regional Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games being held in Embu.
Kwathanze beat hapless Ngondi Secondary 25:10 in the first set and 25:3 in second and third set in the semis to book a date with Kambi Mawe Girls from Makueni County.
Kwanthanze team captain Daisy Chepleting said they are fully prepared to defend their National and East African titles they won in 2019, before the games were suspended following the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2022.
In boys’ handball, the Regional defending champions, Mbooni Boys from Makueni trounced Miruriri Boys from Meru 33-7 to advance to the finals, where they will face Machakos School, who beat Lawson High School 33-27 in the semis.
Mbooni captain Yusuf Abdalla exuded confidence of defending their title and even reaching the nationals to better their record.
On the other hand, it was the first time for Machakos School to reach the Regional finals, with team coach Frank Kavita saying they are ready for the finals and was confident of upsetting the defending champions.
The three-day tournament that is featuring 1, 800 students from eight counties in the Region in 11 disciplines will end Saturday, where playoffs and finals will be played.
Winners are expected to proceed to the nationals to be staged in Nakuru from September 8 to 12 followed by the East African Championships.
