Duale Wants Criminals Arrested

Garissa: Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on security agencies in Garissa town to sustain the ongoing crackdown on knife-wielding gangs that have been terrorizing the residents of Garissa town. The police in Garissa town have intensified efforts over the past two weeks to combat juvenile gangs following public outcry over escalating insecurity in the area.

According to Kenya News Agency, over 100 suspects have been arrested and arraigned in court since the crackdown began. Duale emphasized the need for the police to also arrest parents or relatives who attempt to secure the release of children suspected to be involved in the criminal activities. He stressed that even if a suspect is related to him or any senior politician, they should face the law.

Duale expressed a desire for the safety and peace of the town, highlighting the need for women traders to conduct business without harassment and for religious activities to proceed without fear. He also urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to publish images of the suspects to serve as a deterrent to others.

Last month, North Eastern regional commissioner John Otieno addressed chiefs and their assistants, declaring that he would not oversee a town where juvenile gangs operate with impunity. He instructed the County security committee to arrest and prosecute gang members.

During the event, Duale also voiced support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, citing significant infrastructure projects under his leadership. These include the Sh1.8 billion Tana bridge and the construction of roads as part of the LAPSET corridor, marking unprecedented development efforts in the Northern region.
