Kajiado County Deputy Governor, Martin Moshisho, has called upon well-wishers and other members of the public to help, wherever, they can so as to address the looming drought in the area.
In a video posted on social media, Moshisho is seen feeding livestock with hay, then going ahead to appeal to the public on the plight of drought stricken victims in the region.
According to the former aspiring Kajiado North Legislator (MP), Anita Soina, the Deputy Governor had visited his home town in Lele to assess the situation, following the prolonged drought.
“The situation on the ground is so dire. There is biting shortage of both human food and animal feeds as well as scarcity of water,” said Moshiso in the video.
“Our school going children are studying with empty stomachs, they need our support. The County Government is doing its bit, we started off with a budget of Sh130 million, now we are disbursing Sh40 million to support 15,000 households” he added.
The hardest hit areas include Kajiado South, where 400 pupils have interrupted their learning, according to Peter Bita, the County Director of Education.
Meanwhile, the drought situation in the larger Kajiado has continued to worsen following two years of insufficient rainfall, which has impacted negatively on both residents and their livestock.
