Dr. William Ruto Declared President Elect

Deputy President Dr William Samoei Ruto was today declared the president elect in the just concluded 9th August general elections in tightly contested race.
Chairman of Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati announced that Dr Ruto who ran on a United Democratic Alliance party ticket (UDA) garnered 7,176,141 votes.
His closest rival the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who on the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Party followed closely with 6942,930 votes.
He said Ruto got 50.49% of the votes and managed to garner at least 25% of votes in 39 counties while Raila scored 48.86% of the over 14 million valid votes cast during the election.
The race attracted two other candidates Professor George Wajackoyah of Roots party and David Mwaure Waihiga of Agano party got 61969 and 31997 respectively during the final tally.
The declaration however comes after four out of the seven IEBC commissioners walked out of the national tallying Centre at Bomas of Kenya and held a brief press conference at a Nairobi hotel to disown the results.
