County To Set Up Aquaculture Training School

Vihiga County government intends to set up an aquaculture training school at Mwitokho fish hatchery in Luanda Sub County.

The school will be offering short courses in fish farming to local farmers as well as those from the neighbouring counties.

Since its launch three years ago, it has been supplying over 80, 000 fingerlings to the farmers.

Speaking to the delegation from Pamoja for Transformation led by the project’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stephen Kadenyo Wednesday, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said his administration wants farmers to embrace diversification.

Kadenyo stated that they intend to partner with the county in areas of peace, governance, Skills and Enterprise development as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation.

He lauded the governor for advocating for the establishment of a climate change institute at Kaimosi Friends University (KFU) that will serve the 14-member Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) catchment area.

“We also take cognizance of your keenness in promoting the blue economy, the use of renewable energy and embracing a cyclic approach in waste management.

Dr. Ottichilo said diversification provides alternatives for the farmers to venture into other farming so that in case one economic activity fails another one may succeed.
