County To Construct A Sh1.9 Million Bus Terminus

The Busia County Government has embarked on constructing a bus terminus to decongest the town from traffic.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Busia CEC for Lands and Urban Planning Peter Odima gave notice to land grabbers in the town to pave way for the construction of more government amenities or face forceful eviction.

The Sh1.9million stage will be completed within 18months.

This comes a week after the county government intensified the demolition of structures constructed along drainage system and road reserves in efforts to reorganize the town.

“I want to call upon Busia residents to join hands and help us change the face of the county, the demolitions are meant to beautify the County,” he said

He directed that all houses in Busia town be painted cream white and incomplete ones be completed promptly adding that his department was committed in restructuring Busia town to meet international standards of a municipality.

“We are a border town hence we must improve and have better town standards, let our officers on the ground work on the planned projects in this town in order to attain our goals,’’ added Odima.

Following the measures, hundreds of traders have been rendered jobless with the majority being unable to provide for their families’ basic needs.

“My business premise has been demolished, making it impossible to pay school fees for my kids and fend for them,’’ said Everlyne Akinyi, an electronics vendor.

The construction of the new bus park is part of the pilot programs being initiated by Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa in an effort to reclaim Busia town’s lost glory.
