County Allocates Sh22million Towards Healthcare Support Programme

Trans Nzoia Governor Mr. George Natembeya has launched an ambitious social health support scheme, NATECARE, in a bid to enable access to affordable health services by the elderly and disabled members of the society.
Natembeya unveiled the healthcare programme at a colourful event held in Kitale town on Monday during which he revealed that the County government has set aside Sh.22million this financial year for the programme that targets at least 4000 people across the County.
While addressing participants at the event, Natembeya reiterated his administration’s commitment toward improving health standards of the locals.
‘We are fully committed to the transformation of our health sector, right from equipping our hospitals with necessary drugs, non-pharmaceuticals and equipment to the employment of adequate staff so as to meet the demands by locals,’ said the Governor.
‘I also urge residents to ensure timely remittance of NHIF subscriptions in order to access affordable health services without interruption. We want the culture of fundraising for medical bills to come to an end,’ added Natembeya.
He appealed to the health department to ensure that his directive requiring exemption of Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDS) from paying medical charges was fully implemented.
He lauded the national government’s decision to meanwhile shoulder the responsibility of footing stipends for community health volunteers for the next three years before leaving the same to the devolved units.
The County boss used the same occasion to flag off a drone, which he said will be used by the department to specifically collect and transport samples for medical tests from grassroots to the Kitale County Referral Hospital.
Speaking at the event, County Deputy Speaker Mr. Obed Mwale assured the Governor that the legislature will accord his administration the necessary legislative support to ensure success of various development programmes and projects.
‘Healthcare is key to the development of any society and hence such initiatives towards boosting this sector require all the support required. We will walk with you,’ remarked Mwale.
