Baringo County Commissioner Henry Wafula has called on the local contractors awarded tenders to construct the first phase of 155 Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms worth Sh120.9 million to finish the work within the stipulated timeframes.
Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony of a CBC classroom at Barwessa Secondary School in Baringo North Sub County, the County Commissioner noted that if completed on time, the class rooms would aid the smooth transition of grade six learners to junior secondary in 2023.
Wafula who was accompanied by the County Director of Education, Mwasaro Mwashegwa, assured the contractors of prompt payments to those who deliver as per the contract agreement and Bill of Quantities specifications provided.
“We will not tolerate any lazy and shoddy work by the contractors and I will personally be randomly sending my County Development Implementation Committee (CDICC) to inspect the work,” added Wafula who is the Chairperson of the implementation committee.
The CC stated that the contractors have up to March this year to complete the construction so as not to disrupt learning and the next phase of construction as directed by the Ministry of Education.
Mwashegwa assured other needy schools across the seven sub counties in the region that were not captured during the first phase that they would benefit in the next rollout of the programme.
He revealed that Baringo Central and Koibatek Sub Counties which are benefiting from 37 and 36 classrooms respectively are the biggest beneficiary in the first phase of construction.
The project is coordinated by a multi-agency team of County and Sub- County heads of Ministries of Interior, Education, ICT as well as heads of Teachers’ Service Commission, Procurement and other departments that may be co opted.
