The contractors undertaking national and county government projects have been instructed to speed up those that are behind schedule failure to which legal action will be taken against them.
Addressing contractors and consultants of the Sh4.4 billion worth Kopasi – River Marich pass (B17) road during a status brief at the contractor’s boardroom, West Pokot County commissioner (CC) Apollo Okello said contractors need to speed up those projects, which are envisioned to transform the lives of the people.
The CC warned that the government will not accept shoddy work and advised them to ensure quality work.
He urged contractors not to abandon projects due to delay in payments, assuring them that the government will pay all their dues after the completion of the project.
“Government will pay all of your bills but it will not accept shoddy work, only quality job worth the money you received will be accepted,” the West Pokot CC insisted.
He pointed out that Covid-19 pandemic and extreme weather phenomenon may have been the cause of delays in some of the projects but challenged contractors to up their game to avoid being driven out of business by aggressive competitors.
He advised contractors against diverting money paid for a particular project to other projects noting it was the main reason most of them end up with incomplete projects.
Okello said he was not impressed with the contractor’s progress on Kopasi River – Marich pass (B17) road and urged the responsible contractor to speed up its completion to start benefitting the residents.
