The roll out of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kiambu Sub County is on top gear as education stakeholders complete eight out of ten classrooms ahead of a new academic year set to start next week.
Kiambu Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia confirmed this at the Loreto Kiambu High school where he had led a delegation to commission one of the CBC classrooms.
“We are on course to complete the first phase of the construction of CBC classrooms, 8 of the classrooms are ready and the remaining 2 are nearing completion,” Macharia told KNA.
Simeon Odera, Chief of Staff who represented Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha lauded the school heads and contractors responsible for building the classrooms.
“Kiambu is making good progress with the construction of these classes. I’m sure all the classes will be ready soon because we would like to begin with the second phase of this program once the new school year starts.
The team comprising of officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Interior proceeded on a tour of 5 other schools to inspect construction progress
They visited Kanunga High School, Kiambu High School, St Joseph’s Riabai High School, St Peters, Ndumberi High School and St Ann & Joakim High School where they commissioned new classes.
The 8 class rooms of 10,000 classes that the Ministry of Education intends to build country wide is part of the infrastructure intended to accommodate learners as the Ministry implements the new system of learning.
Classrooms will be built in two phases with the Ministry planning to deliver 6,000 classes in the first phase which started in January this year, and will be expected to be ready by the end of this month.
A further 4,000 classrooms will be built in the second phase starting in May and slated to be ready by July, this year. All this is part of the government’s plans to accommodate students leaving Grade 6 and joining Junior Secondary School as per the CBC system of learning.
