The construction of Competence Based Curriculum classrooms in 24 secondary schools in Lugari Sub-County has begun with contractors promising to complete the work within a specified six months’ period.
The Sub-County committee which oversees the construction is satisfied with the progress during their tour in all construction sites.
School heads of the benefitting schools who are the immediate supervisors of the construction works also thanked the government for funding the building of CBC classes in preparation of Grade Seven entry Junior Secondary School in 2023.
Lugari Sub-County Assistant County Commissioner Evans Otieno who is the chair of the CBC Sub-County Implementation Coordination committee promised that the government will fund the construction of classrooms in the rest of the secondary schools during the second phase.
Otieno called on the contractors to ensure quality work standards are adhered to during the entire stages of construction. “We considered competent contractors during our tendering process and I believe quality work will be delivered at the end,” Otieno said
He expressed confidence that the government is committed to ensure the implementation of CBC is not hampered by lack of basic infrastructure in schools.
Schools benefiting from the CBC class buildings in Lugari include Archbishop Njenga Girls High School, St. Pauls Lugari Boys High School, Munyuki Mixed Secondary School among others.
Most construction sites have construction materials while with others completed the site located block foundation.
Sub-County Director of Education Magdalene Igwatai who is the secretary of the committee called on the school stakeholders including parents and other non-state actors to support the government in construction of new CBC classes.
Igwatai said the government acknowledges the role of the communities, parents and Non-Governmental Organisations players in promoting education in the country.
The Sub-County Education Director reiterated that CBC will fill the gap left by the 8-4-4 system by ensuring learners undergo holistic training with key emphasis on their competences.
