Murang’a residents have been urged to take part in cracking down on criminal activities in their areas by volunteering information to relevant government authorities.
The county commissioner Mr. Karuku Ngumo said residents have the responsibility to report any incident that pose a threat to their security to police or other security agents.
Speaking on Monday when launching a peace forum at Kangema Sub County, Ngumo observed that combined efforts between the residents and security agents will help to ensure criminal activities are curbed.
“Report to us those who are behind illegal activities. There is a digital way of reporting which will not expose you,” Ngumo told the residents who gathered at the CDF social hall.
He noted that criminal gangs can easily be handled if residents volunteer information to police.
“In your area you know those who are behind bhang trafficking, selling illicit brews and even you know the children who have dropped out of school. Give us the information through the Security Toll Number that is 988,” he stated.
The administrator said the county security committee will continue to engage various stakeholders in ensuring there is peace in the county.
“Reduced criminal activities are a great boost to our economy as people will be encouraged to invest and as chairman of the county security team, I will engage all stakeholders to ensure every corner of our county is peaceful,” he added.
Residents present raised concerns of the emergency of some criminal gangs saying they are posing a security threat to locals.
They requested security officers to crack down members of gaza and mugiki groups which they claimed are terrorizing business people especially those in matatu sector.
Meanwhile, the commissioner lauded Murang’a residents for maintaining peace during the electioneering period.
He observed that there was no single insecurity incidence that was reported in the county during and after the voting day.
“Murang’a was peaceful during election day. People voted peacefully and waited for the results announcement without chaos and we appreciate all residents for maintaining peace.
“The process is not over yet since a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court and we urge residents to continue maintaining peace regardless of the court’s verdict,” added Ngumo urging residents to get back to their daily economic activities.
Meanwhile, the county peace steering committee has organized peace forums with various stakeholders in all the nine sub counties of Murang’a. The forums will run for a period of one week.
