The African Inland Church AIC South Rift Faithful have donated foodstuff worth over Sh1 million to the starving residents of Baringo Central.
The foodstuff which comprises of 100 bags 90 kgs of dry maize,40 bags 50 kgs of rice, pumpkins, bananas, avocadoes, cabbages, finger millet, sorghum, and sugarcane were yesterday loaded on a lorry and transported to Baringo where the items will be distributed to the drought affected residents of Baringo Central.
While giving a hand in loading of the items onto the lorry yesterday at Litein AIC head office, South Rift Deputy Bishop Rev Jonathan Rotich said as the church, they have heeded to the President William Ruto’s call on Kenyans and the privileged in society to come to aid of other Kenyans facing food shortage in various parts of this country owing to failure of rains in the regions.
Rev Rotich who was flanked by other church leaders, elders and Administrative Secretary AIC South Rift Rev Joseah Too urged other churches in the South region to join AIC faithful and other Kenyans of good will in donating food to fellow Kenyans facing hunger in the country.
Rev Rotich said the first assemblage of the donation from Kericho would reach Baringo by today while the 2nd batch would be next week. He added that any form of foodstuff was being collected in all its AIC 12 regional offices in Kericho.
Rev Rotich at the time urged the political class in the country to allow a sober discussion on the Genetically Modified Organisms GMOs and assist Kenyans with proven scientific repercussions and effects of consumption of food deemed GMO.
He said that the current war of words being exchanged would not help Kenyans but the correct information on the food would enable Kenyans to decide whether they were going to eat the food or not.
“The situation as at now is to come to the aid of the hunger-stricken people of our country and not which food they are going to eat or not. Let’s all collect the food we have and donate to the suffering Kenyans as a result of lack of food,” bishop Rotich said.
The government has come out strongly led by President Ruto in urging the able in the society to donate food in kind to the suffering millions of Kenyans across many counties in the country.
Long rains have failed in many parts of the country for a long period owing to climate change in the country.
