Chiefs Urged To Be Non-Partisan

Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has called on Chiefs to be non-partisan and not intimidate voters.
The Woman representative speaking to the media after voting at Railways polling station in Nanyuki town alleged there were rumours that some chiefs were buying and practicing voter bribery in Nanyuki and Ngobit.
“I want to tell the administration to remember they will work with whoever gets elected. They should not also be campaigning or campaigning against certain candidates,” she said.
“Go and cast your vote (Chiefs and assistant chiefs) and do not intimidate or bully any voter to feel they should not vote in a manner that they should,” added Waruguru.
Waruguru who is the Laikipia county chief observer for the Kenya Kwanza alliance said after visiting about 13 polling stations in the region she had witnessed huge voters turn out.
“I want to thank Laikipia residents for turning out in large numbers. I urge those who are within the Republic of Kenya and diaspora if you want a peaceful Kenya to leave what you are doing and go vote,” said Waruguru, adding that voting in large numbers would ensure no one will challenge the results.
She thanked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for being steadfast in ensuring the country will have credible polls.
“I want to commend IEBC for their firmness and being able to address crises that have been coming up. We will continue giving IEBC the support that they need,” she said.
Waruguru lauded the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto on what she termed leading by example in voting on time.
