Chesongoch: The Mission of Essential Drugs Supply (MEDS) has donated drugs and mattresses worth Sh1 million to Chesongoch Mission Hospital to assist it in its recovery after part of the facility was destroyed during a landslide on October 30. The medical aid was presented to the county government by the head of commercial services, Titus Munene, to the hospital being run by Catholic nuns.
According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Wisley Rotich said the donation will go a long way in assisting the hospital, which he said has been offering medical services to local residents for the last 50 years except when the Benedictine sisters left the area due to insecurity, leaving the facility unattended. The governor mentioned that while the county government has been running a health camp in the area, their services could not be complete without being supplemented by the Mission Hospital.
Meanwhile, the governor stated that the burial for victims of the landslide in Embobut/Embolot in Marakwet East has been moved from November 17 to November 18, while the burial for Chesongoch victims will remain unchanged on November 21. He has appealed to people of goodwill to continue assisting the victims who lost everything and have nowhere to go even as the two levels of government explore ways of finding a lasting solution.
