About 95 percent of the Competency Based Classrooms (CBC), in Kericho County have been completed and are ready for use.
Out of 142 classrooms, 59 of them have been handed over to the Ministry of Education by the various contractors. The contract sum for one classroom is Sh788, 220.
Another set of 60 out of 142 of the classrooms are at the various stages of finishing, 18 of them are at the roofing level while only nine are at the walling level, according to a report by the County Director of Education (CDE) Ms Rose Sagara.
Twenty-five classrooms which have been completed and handed over to the education ministry have been submitted for processing of payments to contractors who won the contracts.
The 142 classrooms are distributed across the six Sub-Counties in Kericho with Bureti Sub County having benefited with 34 classrooms, Londiani 30, Kericho East Sub-County 21, Soin Sigowet 18, Belgut 18, and Kipkelion having 21.
Sagara urged contractors who are still working on the classrooms to speed up the completion of the CBC classrooms so that they are ready for occupation and use by the junior secondary early January next year.
Kericho County Commissioner Mr. Karungo Kamau who is also the chairman of education affairs hailed the committee spearheading the construction works.
