Wote: There is a need to include Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in youth-led programmes and public activities in the community, the United Disabled Persons of Kenya (ADPK) Programme Officer, Joy Mugure has said. Mugure emphasized this point during a meeting at a hotel in Wote town, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and active participation of PWDs in societal matters.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mugure addressed members of the Makueni Youth Network (MYN), providing them with knowledge and tools to advocate for PWDs in the county. She stated, “Disability inclusion requires action and collaboration in society. We want young people to understand disability is not just from a charity point of view, but through a human rights perspective.”
During the training session, Mugure expressed the expectation of cultivating a group dedicated to championing disability issues within Makueni County. The MYN is focused on empowering youth through leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement initiatives in the region.
Additionally, UDPK extends support to PWDs by offering life skills and entrepreneurship training, alongside linking them to employment opportunities, aiming to help them achieve self-reliance.
