Call For Registration Of Persons With Disabilities

he National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) Kericho County will be carrying out a mass registration exercise for persons with disabilities in Belgut Sub County from January 16 to 20, 2023 at various venues within the Sub-County.

In a statement, the NCPWD has indicated that caregivers should avail persons with disabilities to their nearest venue for the crucial exercise.

The Council has called on Persons with Disability to show up with photocopies of their Identity Cards or copies of their Birth Certificates and normal Passport sized photos, (White background with 75 per cent image coverage) for their data to be captured during registration.

Persons with Disabilities who reside in Kipkoiyan, Kapsuser, and Kipsolu have been asked to avail themselves at Kapsuser Chief’s office, while those who reside in Kabianga and Chemamul areas can get their registration done at Kabianga Chief’s office.

Meanwhile, the exercise will also be conducted at Chepnyogaa Center for residents of Mobego and Kiptome while Sosiot Play Ground will be the registration centre for persons in Kaptoboiti, Kaborok, and Waldai areas. Seretut and Chaik residents have been asked to show up at Kapkelek Centre for the crucial registration that will be conducted from 9 am to 4 pm.

The NCPWD has also asked caregivers to avail Persons with severe Disabilities under the Cash Transfer / Inua Jamii Programme to be taken to the nearest registration centre for the necessary process to ensure recognition of persons with disabilities that will enable them access equal opportunity rights of persons with disabilities.

Speaking to KNA, the Kericho County Senior Disabilities Officer Hellen Tuei said last year, over 500 Persons with Disabilities in Kericho County were issued with a new generation Identity disability cards which she said serve as an alternative to carrying around paperwork as proof of being entitled to access certain activities, services, and programmes.

“I encourage all Persons with Disabilities in Belgut sub-county to take this opportunity that has been availed near their homes by turning up for registration which will be of benefit to them,” added Tuei.

According to NCPWD, registered members get a Persons with Disabilities national identification card that is recognised across various divisions both in the public and private sectors in an effort to encourage their inclusion in activities that are geared towards achieving National Development goals and their human rights and dignity upheld.

The Persons with Disability Act 14 of 2003 stipulates that disability is a physical, sensory, mental, or other impairment, including any visual, hearing, learning, or physical limitations that impact adversely on the social, economic or environmental participation of a person.
