Butula MP Calls For Investment In Girl Child Education

Butula: Speaking during the official opening of the Busire Primary School storey tuition and administration block with 10 classrooms and 2 administration offices funded through the NG-CDF in Butula subcounty on Tuesday, Oyula said addressing the challenges facing girls requires commitment from both parents and the community to ensure they remain in school and achieve their full potential.

According to Kenya News Agency, the MP emphasized the importance of protecting and investing in girls’ education, highlighting its potential to reduce early pregnancies, gender-based violence, and other social challenges. He urged parents to treat all children equally, advocating for equal educational opportunities for both boys and girls.

The MP recounted personal interventions where he facilitated the return of two girls to school after their parents had initially refused to send them. He also announced plans for constructing a secondary school in Busire through NG-CDF support, aiming to improve access to education by reducing travel distances for students.

Oyula called on residents to support leaders with a proven development track record, especially as the political season approaches, urging them to focus on leaders committed to improving education infrastructure and other services.

Butula Sub-county TSC Director Robert Masika supported the MP’s calls, emphasizing the role of parents in their children’s education and urging them to collaborate with teachers to ensure academic success.

Masika praised the MP’s efforts in enhancing the learning environment and challenged both teachers and learners to improve academic performance in response to the improved infrastructure. He assured continued commitment to addressing teacher-related issues for the benefit of learners.

Busire Comprehensive School headteacher Charles Ouma expressed concern over the low involvement of male parents in their children’s education and urged them to actively participate by attending school meetings and regularly engaging with teachers.
