Bungoma County and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at collaboration to boost key critical sectors.
According to Governor Kenneth Lusaka the strategy is a critical partnership and a game changer for service delivery in the County.
Speaking at the University, during the signing ceremony, Lusaka noted that the agreement will pave way for joint initiatives in areas ranging from healthcare, agriculture, education and climate change.
‘This partnership is timely and a stepping stone to our service delivery’ said the Governor.
Lusaka added that the MOU outlines a comprehensive roadmap for collaboration, encompassing health and sanitation, addressing community health needs and promoting sanitation practices.
‘Bungoma County, particularly Mt. Elgon Sub-county being the food basket of western region, the memorandum focuses of productivity and fostering food security,’ he said.
Lusaka noted that in education, the two parties will emp
hasize on educational opportunities and quality through joint programs.
The Governor noted that climate change, which is major challenge in the world, including Kenya and Bungoma in particular MOU has come up with mitigating on climate change impacts and building resilience.
On information communication and digital economy, the Governor applauded the National government digitizing services, hence the two parties will harness technology to drive economic growth and create jobs.
Lusaka said on talent and entrepreneurship the MOU has addressed nurturing skilled professionals and fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
On engineering reserve and innovation, the Governor said leveraging MMUST’s expertise to tackle infrastructural challenges, which will also foster a culture of research and innovation for sustainable development.
Lusaka noted that on Social work training and capacity building, the MOU came-up with mechanism of strengthening social safety nets and supporting vulnerable communities throug
h Community Outreach, while collaborating on community development initiatives.
‘The MOU has also addressed the issue of equipping county officials and residents with essential skills,’ he said.
Present at the ceremony was Bungoma Deputy Governor, Jennifer Mbatiay, several Chief Officers and the County Executive Members.
