Nyahururu bodaboda riders have planted over 1000 tree seedlings at the Nyahururu Level Four Hospital in a bid to curb the effects of climate change.
Speaking at the hospital after the tree planting exercise, the chairman of the organization Daniel Kiarie said they are glad the hospital management gave them space to plant the trees and expressed hope that the trees will be of benefit to the hospital.
He said they came up with the tree-planting idea since motorcycles contribute to air pollution hence the need to plant trees to ensure the trees generate oxygen to counter the pollution.
“As the country is striving to achieve the 15 billion trees goal set by the president by 2032, we have come to give back to the community by planting trees in various places to ensure our people breathe fresh and clean air,” said Kiarie.
“We are eagerly waiting for our president to launch the jazamiti app to closely monitor our growth. We decided to plant the trees here since many patients are in need of fresh air,” reiterated the Boda Boda official.
He added that they are hoping that the government will come to their aid since they have the manpower but they lack resources such as the seedlings.
The manager of the hospital, Dr. Kamande who was also present noted that patients are the people who are majorly affected by climate change.
“When we have trees we have oxygen and rain. We should plant as many trees as we can. We thank the bodaboda operators for coming up with this great initiative and we should emulate them,” said Kamande.
