Isaac Chelagat popularly known as Mzee Njeule is not your ordinary man since his passion for music is unmatched.
Mzee Njeule aged 74 years who hails from a remote Kasiber village, Baringo North wants to inspire the youth and the society at large despite his advancing age.
The versatile singer who late last year uploaded two patriotic songs in YouTube “Jenga Kenya” and “Hustler Fund” says although he is illiterate, song ideas could come to him when he is fast asleep and he starts composing them.
“I have composed about 10 gospel songs in Kalenjin dialect which I am unable to record since I do not have a job nor somebody to sponsor my songs which I believe can inspire especially youth and women,” Mzee Njeule told KNA in Kabarnet.
He says he is naturally gifted and has even sung to the second President of Kenya the late Daniel Toroitich arap Moi but during that time recording a song was a bit challenging since there were few studios by then too.
The elderly musician stated that he has been mocked by neighbours for singing at his sunset years but he is undeterred and would tell them that God’s time is the best and no human being can stop an idea whose time has matured.
Mzee Njeule said that he has tried on several occasions to reach out to Governor Benjamin Cheboi and area Member of Parliament Joseph Makilap for support to pursue his call and venture but to no avail.
“I still have the energy to compose melodies, inspire and encourage the masses through my songs that is why I am requesting any well-wisher to support me advance my worthy cause,” he said.
The musician who is also a church elder at Chebarseret AIC message to the youth is for them to be aggressive in whatever activities they are good at.
He urged them to shun drug abuse and other immoral behaviours which he noted has destroyed the lives of promising youth in the society.
