Baringo: Baringo County has transitioned 1,600 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers to permanent and pensionable terms after many years of temporary service. Announcing the improved terms, Governor Benjamin Cheboi stressed that his administration is committed to investing in education and skills development from the earliest stages to technical training that guarantees employability.
According to Kenya News Agency, Cheboi stated that the county government has steadily increased resources in ECDE, infrastructure in vocational training centers (VTCs), bursaries and scholarships for needy learners, and digital learning programmes. He made the remarks during Madaraka Day celebrations at Mukutani Primary School grounds in Mukutani Sub-county, Baringo South, presided over by the new County Commissioner, Wesley Koech Mabwai.
The Governor reiterated that as a measure to prepare learners for the digital future, his government is introducing digital literacy in over 500 ECDE centers across the vast county. ‘The county government is implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in all ECDE centers and providing curriculum designs alongside other essential instructional materials to strengthen teaching and learning,’ Cheboi stated.
Commenting on peace, the governor noted that despite the improved security situation and relative calm being experienced, rising lake levels and occasional insecurity incidents continue to pose challenges to the local communities and stall development efforts. ‘I urge all of us to support conservation measures and strengthen our collective efforts to sustain peace and peaceful co-existence across the county,’ Cheboi restated.
The governor observed that the restoration of peace in the region has seen displaced families return to their homes once again to rebuild their lives and livelihoods. Cheboi added that internally displaced persons in Mukutani Location have been successfully resettled, with several households currently living in decent housing. The great milestone, the governor pointed out, has been made possible through collaboration between the county government and partners such as the Kenya Red Cross and the World Food Programme (WFP).
