Bank Sponsors Amateur Golf Championship

The 2023- 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship has received a sponsorship of Sh5 million from the National Commercial Bank of Africa (NCBA).

NCBA bank Group Managing Director Mr. John Gachora said that the partnership will see NCBA sponsor the 2023 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship events which occur in every two weeks involving 72 players in each tournament.

The partnership marks a significant step in professionalizing golf as a sport. Previously, amateurs in golf had a difficult time financing the sport.

‘Due to lack of exposure, Kenyan elite golfers face serious competition when they meet their peers who have more exposure. To remedy this, we are igniting this journey of golf,’ said Mr. Gachora.

He added that the NCBA is committed to supporting initiatives that promote growth and development.

The NCBA sponsorship now includes the Amateur competition with a finale in December, Mug and Club Nites, juniors with Junior Golf Foundation and now partnering with the Elite- Amateur category with Kenya Golf Union.

Captain of the Kenya Railways Golf Club in Nairobi Mr. Onassis Ndegwa in his remarks stated that the general setup of clubs is nonprofit making and the partnership is welcomed.

Kenya Golf Union vice Chairperson Mr. Philip Ocholla stated that the partnership with NCBA is one of the greatest milestones and will continue to grow because of the golfers’ hard work.

He thanked the NCBA for their sponsorship saying it shows the testament of their commitment.

‘Kenya Golf Union has players from Uganda and we have tournaments between Kenya and Uganda known as the Victoria Cup. Therefore we are happy to partner with you,’ said Mr. Ocholla as he also encouraged the captains and golfers to give their best in the sport.

Also in attendance at the function were Mr. Njani Ndiritu Chairperson Kenya Golf Union, Mr. Ronny Maina Chairperson Kenya Railway Golf Club, Lydia Obonyo Chairperson Kenya Ladies Golf Union, Regina Gachora President Junior Golf Foundation, Kenya Railway Golf Club board members and some of the golf players including Elvis Muigwa, Mike Ngene, Adel Balala, John Regina, Victor Chesumei, Kimemia Ngondo and Dennis Maara.
