Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko says he is committed to cleaning all the messes that have dogged the health sector in Migori County, leading to poor services to wananchi.
Ayacko was speaking when he made an impromptu visit to the Migori County Referral Hospital in Migori town Thursday.
While accompanied by a team of senior health personnel, the governor, who caught many workers and patients unawares regretted that the hospital had been incurring losses of key resources meant to improve services to the people.
He said that it was only a matter of time that services would be revolutionized at all health facilities within the region and asked workers to be ready to work or leave.
On shortage of drugs and understaffing, Ayacko assured that he will ensure allocation of corresponding funds to procure and hire the necessary drugs and staff to bridge the gap.
“We want to be focused seriously on efforts to reverse the situation and to root out all the losses that the health facilities especially the Migori referral hospital have been incurring as a result of corrupt personnel,” he stressed.
“We will root out all issues that have been blocking our people from getting quality services in this facility. Be it from human creation or from other technicalities, we want to ensure health services in this county reach an optimum level,” he said.
Concerning the county referral facility, Ayacko said he was saddened that the hospital has been operating without water for some time due to disconnections of electricity by the Kenya power company, over power bills running into millions of shillings.
Lack of water at the hospital forces patients to outsource water from outside, unacceptable thing for patients.
The governor stated that his tour to the facility was to get a feel of what his county residents have been feeling especially in the health sector and especially at the facility where claims over poor services have been raised.
Ayacko concurred that the facility and all the others scattered within the region needed a total overhaul in terms of enforcement of service delivery to reach their optimum levels in treatment and handling of patients as well as provision of clean water.
