Aid To Mandera Drought

Development partners and non-governmental organizations have intensified drought response in Mandera County in the drought stricken north eastern Kenya.

CARE International launched the Coca-Cola Integrated Drought Response Project which supports drought-affected communities to access nutritional and hygiene support.

The organization launched assorted items food items and provision of submersible water pump and solar kits for use at boreholes, dignity kits for 1000 schoolgirls and and soap.

CARE International in Kenya Country Director Mrs Leah Kaguara while handing over the items to Mandera county government said they will continue working with both County and National governments in responding to the ravaging drought.

Mandera Deputy Governor Ali Maalim commended CARE International for the prompt action terming it as timely in addressing the dire situation affecting locals.

The Deputy Governor appealed for more support to cushion area resident’s affected by the worst drought in decades who need urgent assistance.Mandera drought situation is in crisis caused successive years of failed or inadequate rains where the population in need of assistance is estimated at 527,579 representing 55 percent of population in Mandera.
