Kadibo: Kadibo Sub-county Assistant County Commissioner (ACC), Casline Omollo, has called on parents to actively invest in and monitor their children in learning institutions to help mitigate crime among the juveniles.
According to Kenya News Agency, Omollo made this appeal during the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations at Nyakakana Secondary School in Kobura Ward, Kisumu County. She emphasized the need for collaboration between families and the government to ensure academic mentorship, highlighting education as a pivotal equalizer for both affluent and less privileged individuals.
Omollo encouraged parents to take advantage of available academic opportunities, stressing that financial constraints should not hinder children’s education. She noted that most day secondary schools in the sub-county are free, and financial aid is accessible through bursaries from the county government and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The ACC further urged that parents should not simply enroll their children in schools without considering their moral upbringing. She warned that neglecting to monitor children’s activities could lead to their involvement in criminal activities.
Omollo called on parents to be actively involved in their children’s educational journeys, from primary school through university, to prevent them from straying into unlawful paths. She stated that the government’s objective is to guide young people towards positive pursuits rather than entanglement with the justice system.
Additionally, Omollo challenged parents, especially mothers, to enforce strict discipline at home and closely monitor their children’s peer interactions. She reminded the community of the sacrifices made for the freedoms they enjoy today, urging them to honor this legacy by raising disciplined and well-educated citizens aware of the consequences of their choices.
