Yang Chaobin speaking at MBBF2022

5G has been commercialized for three years. It has developed rapidly in terms of network coverage, devices, and user scale. 5G delivers a more HD and immersive digital experience to consumers, and has accelerated digital transformation across industries. It has improved the way people work and the production efficiency of industries. In terms of 5G network construction, operators focused on TDD and mmWave development during the initial phase, but recently TDD+FDD convergence has been the choice for most operators.

Moving forward, all connections and services will evolve to 5G, and so will all bands. Huawei has developed the One 5G concept and solutions to maximize the capabilities of all bands, and facilitate in-depth coordination between bands, which lays the groundwork for the construction of efficient and cost-effective 5G networks.

MetaAAU with ELAA Improves TDD Uplink and Downlink Coverage While Reducing Energy Consumption

Combination of TDD high bandwidth and Massive MIMO has enabled cross-generation 5G experience. It is important to provide better coverage and higher capacity with lower energy consumption, which has inspired a series of new TDD Massive MIMO solutions.

Huawei’s MetaAAU boosts performance and energy efficiency to new levels, by making use of extremely large antenna array (ELAA) technology, as well as innovative software and hardware coordination. MetaAAU has been deployed at scale around the world. It has been proven to boost uplink and downlink coverage and user experience, while consuming less energy.

Products with wider bandwidth will be a must-have for operators to fulfill new band allocation needs and simplify the ultra-wide bandwidth deployment. Huawei’s new 800 MHz MetaAAU supports current deployment on C-Band and enables simplified deployment on future new spectrum.

For scenarios with limited antenna installation space, Huawei provides Meta BladeAAU, which combines Meta and Blade technologies in a unique way, to allow for easy deployment of MetaAAU and all sub-3GHz bands on a single pole, making it ideal for single-antenna scenarios.

Ultra-wideband and Multi-antenna Technologies Simplify Deployment with Fragmented FDD Spectrum and Improve Spectral Efficiency

Legacy FDD bands will continue to evolve to 5G. This process may meet challenges of the fragmented spectrum of narrow-band and co-existence of multi-RATs.

Huawei has been upgrading its ultra-wideband and multi-antenna solution series to help operators simplify deployment, improve spectral efficiency, and provide high-level user experience for all RATs.

Huawei’s ultra-wideband 4T4R RRU supports simplified multi-band network deployment on 700–900 MHz or 1.8–2.6/1.4 GHz, and millisecond-level power sharing across all carriers, bands, and RATs, which reduces power consumption while ensuring GU coverage.

Another Huawei product, ultra-wide band 8T8R RRU can increase 4G and 5G network capacity by 1.5 and 3 times, respectively. Together with the Hertz platform antenna which having built-in signal direct injection feeding (SDIF) technology, 8T8R RRU is able to reduce energy consumption.

For scenarios requiring a large capacity, Huawei provides FDD Massive MIMO AAU, which can increase 4G and 5G network capacity by 3 and 5 times, respectively, enhancing 4G and 5G performance. This product has been commercially deployed at scale on over 70 networks around the world.

For single-pole scenarios, Huawei provides the FDD BladeAAU solution, which is the industry’s first to combine FDD Massive MIMO AAUs and sub-3 GHz passive antennas. It allows for simple deployment on one pole.

LampSite and RuralLink Solutions Enable Ubiquitous 5G

Considering that 70% of wireless network traffic comes from the indoor scenarios, Huawei has developed the LampSite 5.0 solution that features TDD+FDD multi-band and multi-RAT combination. Thanks to a highly-integrated design, LampSite 5.0 reduces hardware weight and volume while reducing power consumption. In addition, mmWave is introduced for the LampSite solution to deliver indoor 10 Gbps capacity based on ultra-wide bandwidth and distributed architecture.

Huawei has also launched the RuralLink solution that is designed for remote areas. With this solution, a single RRU and antenna are all that’s needed to provide rural coverage for three sectors, and microwave fronthaul can save BBU deployment on the site. The inter-site distance between RuralLink site and host site is up to 20 km. With simplified design and ultra-low power consumption, only 6 solar panels are enough to power a single site and remote O&M is supported.

I nnovative mmWave Solution Enables mmWave Commercial Deployment in Outdoor Hotspots and Indoor Scenarios

mmWave spectrum resources are abundant, and more than 140 operators have obtained access to the high-bandwidth spectrum. Outdoor hotspots and indoor environments are typical application scenarios of mmWave.

In outdoor hotspot scenarios, Huawei’s mmWave solution makes use of iBeam and intelligent high- and low-band coordination algorithm to achieve precise beam alignment and fast tracking. Performance under continuous networking reveals that a continuous high user-perceived rate can be delivered in moving vehicles and indoor environments along streets.

In indoor scenarios, Huawei’s LampSite 5.0, supporting 800 MHz mmWave, C-band, and the 1.8 GHz band, works with the distributed architecture, providing an ultra-large capacity of more than 10 Gbps. These new capabilities will also make indoor connections seamless while unlocking the full potential of mmWave.

IntelligentRAN Empowers Intelligent 5G Networks

As all bands evolve to 5G, intelligent networks are needed to support the requirements of diversified services, enhance multi-RAT O&M efficiency, and balance user experience and energy consumption. With layered intelligence architecture, Huawei’s IntelligentRAN helps operators reduce network O&M costs, open network capabilities, and create more business opportunities.

The combination of One 5G all-band solutions and IntelligentRAN unlocks the full potential of all bands including TDD, FDD, and mmWave, and facilitates all-band coordination for better network performance and lower power consumption, following the principle: Bands Work As One and Networks Work As One.

“This is the best of times,” concluded Mr. Yang. “5G is entering a new era. Let’s continue 5G innovation with the goal of fulfilling the vision of reshaping the world with 5G, and stride towards the intelligent world.”

The Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2022 is hosted by Huawei, together with its industry partners GSMA and GTI. Pawpaw Farmers Urged To Practice Climate-Smart, Profitable Farming

Papaya farmers in Murang’a have been urged to practice smart agricultural practices for profitable farming so as to ensure food safety and security in the country.
Agronomist Francis Kamau Mwamba observes that the first step to profitable papaya farming is in knowing and understanding the nutrients available to the roots.
“Testing the soil is a must-do for any farmer who intends to reap returns in Agri -investment because the soil PH majorly determines the nutrients that will be available to the plants” he states.
“A good soil PH coupled with other right agronomic practices will enable a pawpaw farmer to harvest 70 – 150 fruits per tree annually,” he says.
Moreover, notes Kamau, testing your soil helps you know the type and amount of food or nutrients available for your paw paws and hence you can successfully decide on the fertilizer to use on the soil.
“Testing the soil and its analysis aids in building soil health thus improving crop resistance to pests and diseases” he observed.
Pawpaw also known as pawpaw carica papaya does well in light well-drained soils with a soil PH of 6.0 to 6.5 and varieties range from those that can withstand drought to those that require round-the-clock irrigation.
The agronomist further underscored the need for farmers to choose quality seeds for optimum yields.
“Choose high quality fast maturing pawpaw variety, one that has a high tolerance to papaya ringspot virus and is highly productive like the Malkia F1 variety or the Calina 1PBP variety.”
“Its fruits, he says, are firm, weigh 1.5 to 2kgs in weight, and have a long shelf life thus is deal for export and long-distance transportation.”
Consequently, farmers can also use agricultural lime as a natural, low-cost way to improve the soil to enhance the effects of regular chemical-based fertilizers.
“Lime increases the PH. of acidic soil thus reducing soil acidity and increasing its alkalinity as well as providing the plants with calcium which is important for better yields and high profits” notes the agronomist.
Kamau further advises farmers not to go for shortcuts as this will be detrimental to getting the profits they desire from papaya.
“After soil testing ensure that the planting holes are dug 2.5 by 2.5m apart and at least 2ft and mix the topsoil with not less than two buckets of well-composed manure,” he stressed.
The manure will retain water due to its high water holding capacity (WHC) and will help the papaya to withstand areas that have long dry spells between rainfalls.
Manure, when mixed properly with soil, will release nutrients over time and then leach away into groundwater like other organic matter can do thus increasing the yields.
The hybrid Papaya variety matures eight months after planting and stays active for up to four years.

County Gov’t Initiates Reconstruction Of Dam

Residents in Yatta Sub County are delighted as the County Government embarks on reconstructing Mekilingi dam.
Speaking at Mekilingi dam during the launch of its reconstruction, Machakos County Deputy Governor Mr. Francis Mwangangi said the dam, like it did in the past, will help reduce food insecurity.
“Drying up of this dam has largely affected food security in this area. Mekilingi dam historically supplied water in Mekilingi, Kyua and other neighboring sub locations in Katangi ward,” said Mwangangi.
He said that the county government’s water programme has already completed 16 dams and this would bring the total to 17, with more planned to ensure adequate water in every village.
He also stated that they will add more excavators and lorries from both the county government and the National Youth Service (NYS) to expedite mud excavation before the rain begins, as the dam is entirely clogged.
The Deputy Governor said that the project is part of the Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) to be accomplished within their first 100 days in office.
“Right now, we are at 30 per cent in terms of water supply, our main aim is to double that figure to around 60 or 70 per cent. We will also in future fence the dam to prevent garbage from filling the dam and also ensure that the water coming in this dam is clean and safe,” said Mwangangi.
The Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Katangi ward Felix Ngui, who was also present, commended the county administration for the initiative and stated that it will significantly boost the local economy.
“With this dam, we don’t need a borehole, since it can supply water to a number of people in Mekilingi, Kyua and their neighboring wards which can be used in agriculture and other domestic uses,” said Ngui.
Ngui stated that the dam was built in 1983 and supplied water to 26 water kiosks, which are now closed due to the dam’s collapse.
He further urged the Governor through the county assembly of Machakos to allocate more funds to water projects since the county has low rains which are unable to sustain agriculture.
Machakos Water Chief Officer Eng. Stephen Ndwiki who is in charge of the project said that they are planning to excavate the silt from the dam to a volume of 50,000m³.
“The launch of this project will benefit over 3000 people in Katangi ward, the dam will provide water for domestic and irrigation purposes,” said Ndwiki.
Ndwiki also stated that the project will be done in two phases whereby phase one will involve clearing the muck while phase two which will involve fencing the dam, making water treatment plan, installing tanks, pumps and piping.
Ndwiki urged the residents to cooperate, revealing that the project will cost about Sh3million and take about a month to complete phase one of the dam.

Laikipia North residents have appealed to the government to restore National Police Reservists (NPR) to aide in intensifying security and provide a check on perennial banditry attacks.
Speaking at a public baraza chaired by Laikipia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri and other senior security officials in the county, residents decried that security officers were not available in sufficient numbers to maintain security.
“We are here as people who want peace in Mukogodo and get solution of this problem that has affected everyone. This is not a simple task, the situation is deteriorating because police officers are few and not enough to man all areas,” decried Kuti Masin an elder from Ilpolei in Mukogodo East, adding that peace restoration takes time.
They said NPR to be stationed at Seek area which is between Rekuruki from East side and Murpusi, they noted bandits have been using those two areas as escape routes after committing heinous crimes. Laikipia North is mostly inhibited by Maa communities.
On Monday, residents said, thugs of about 30 young men stormed Doldol day secondary school and made away with three bags of rice weighing 50kilograms, two bags of beans, salt-five kilograms, sugar and tea leaves, leaving starving pupils at mercy of God to soldier on as hunger pangs continue to bite in Laikipia.
Away from food stuffs item, bandits have been stealing cattle where residents said after wiping out livestock in the area, they resorted to food stuffs. However, no recent recorded livestock theft incident.
Kanyiri spent better part with local community elders to unravel the root causes of perennial insecurity situations before conducting public barazas where he assured residents that government is committed to restore peace.
“On issue of NPR, we have discussed it with security team and we will supply you with NPR and not as many as you want. We will push your proposals and when granted, they will be stationed at Doldol and Kiwanja Ndege,” promised the county commissioner.
Kanyiri warned bandits that their days are numbered and once caught they will be dealt with.
The county commissioner further urged parents to take their children to school noting government is working to partner with NGOs like world vision and others to support the most vulnerable students in the area.
“It is important for children to remain at school. We will monitor how relief food is helping them learn and also, it’s a parental responsibility to educate their children. They will be important people in the community,” said Kanyiri.
A section of residents claimed that, famine had aggravated food stuffs theft situations in Doldol town where there had been sporadic shoplifting.
Doldol Boda Boda chairperson Stephen Mamai said insecurity in Laikipia North could only be addressed through NPR deployment and formation of quick response by security officials.
“Insecurity is not new here; we have had the issue for longest time and our thinkable solution is deployment of more NPR. They can be stationed in our towns including Doldol and Makurian.
Mamai urged, boda boda riders to be included in security committees to help in security surveillance and at the same time called on quick response by security officials.
“As boda boda riders, we would like to work closely with security team since we move from place to place. With that, we can be well positioned to report any suspicious activities to the chief who will escalate to top officials,” said Mamai.
He appealed to traders to work in harmony with the community aimed at stemming down insecurity which he revealed that some of the criminals are not from far areas.
Mamai noted that once residents are supplied with relief food by the government that will help in taming down insecurity.
Residents also claimed that Mukogodo forest has been used as hideouts zones by bandits which they urged to be flushed out and restore calmness in Laikipia North. Other affected areas are Tiamamut, Ilimotiok, Sang’a, and Ntalabany areas.
Laikipia North Maendeleo ya wanawake representative Jane Saikon said, due to drought, their livestock prices had drop which they have been selling at a throw away price in order to feed their families and pay school fees. Appealed women to be involved in peace committees too.
Residents also appealed for formation of community security surveillance team and strengthening of Nyumba Kumi initiatives.
Laikipia county police commander John Nyoike told bar owners not to operate beyond 11 pm.
With about 183,000 facing famine in Laikipia, the government has been distributing relief food to all affected households.
On Monday, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, spouse to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua flagged off relief food worth Sh 6million in Laikipia and assured boreholes sinking to address water crises within six months. Relief food distribution still ongoing in other affected areas.
